SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND / OR DISABILITIES
ENSURING WE HAVE RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTS THAT ARE ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL
SEND LOCAL OFFER
Local Offer for Children with Special Educational Needs and/ or Disabilities (SEND)
We welcome all children and prioritize working alongside the child, their parents/carers and others to ensure their needs are identified and met in order for them to progress and achieve the best possible outcomes. We have robust policies and procedures in place which are reviewed regularly ensuring that our provision fully supports each child and remains accessible for all.
WORKING TOGETHER
We believe that children progress more swiftly when staff and parents work together. Parents have a unique knowledge of their child and we encourage them to share this knowledge and expertise with their child’s key person.
The key person will liaise with parents and others who are supporting the child and family regularly, to discuss the child’s progress and to have an opportunity to share practice, progress and/or discuss any areas of focus.
Parents will be invited to review meetings at least once a term supported by the nursery SENCO.
HOW ACCESSIBLE ARE THE ENVIRONMENTS?
All of our nurseries are unique in appearance but have been adapted to ensure access for all.
If the families home language is not English, staff will encourage the use of key words in the family’s home language to aid communication with the child and family.
HELPING WITH TRANSITIONS
As your child moves from one room to another or one setting to another, we will support your child and their new key worker to prepare for these changes. The key person ensures, in partnership with you that these transitions are well planned and consider every aspect of your child’s needs.
When a child is ready to transition to school the child’s new teacher and SENCO will be invited into nursery to meet the key person. All relevant transition supporting documents are completed and relayed to the school to ensure a smooth transition takes place for all children.
